We are up in Marquette visiting Danielle's family over Labor Day weekend. They have a big vegetable garden, and we're lucky to be here when there are fresh cucumbers and tomatoes ready to be picked. They are so much tastier than what you usually find in the store, and probably a lot healthier too.
At our old house in Brighton, we tried our hand at a vegetable garden one year too. It was a lot of fun, and rewarding to grow our own food, but in the end we weren't able to devote enough time to take care of it properly, and didn't plant the garden again the next year.
One of my relatives who lives nearby, though, still keeps a huge fruit and vegetable garden every year. It's really a pretty big operation for just being one retired man's garden, though it's become somewhat of a community garden, with all sorts of friends and family members volunteering to help and sharing in the harvest. I'll try to get some pictures this year of his garden to share.
