Month 1: Gratitude
Day 1: Life

So I promised more later, here it is: Lisa conned me into joining the A Year in Pictures group (evil woman!) and I started coming up with so many ideas of things that I wanted to take pictures of that I finally just started assigning them to months. I thought I good way to start out the year was to showcase the things in my life that I'm grateful for. And what is more basic than life itself? I am so happy to wake up every morning (although I usually want to go back to sleep), ready to face another day and all the joys and challenges this life brings. Being dead would not be fun, I think, but I may be wrong.

And, as it's New Year's Day, a showcase of a traditional American meal. Maybe Southern? I know a lot of people eat it so I don't really know where the tradition started. This is a roasted turkey breast, covered in bacon, with a side of collards/kale, and black-eyed peas with rice (the former soaked, the latter made the fast way, for you NT/WPF folks out there).

AND, as it IS New Year's Day, we talked about what we wanted to achieve in the coming year. I have LOTS I want to do and I'm sure I'll share most of it here over the next few weeks, but the one (and a half) that goes with this post is: the DH and I both want to get to a healthier weight (he's aiming for 1lb/wk loss, me I'm still heading for that elusive size 8) and part of my plan is to kick the soda habit. It's the last remaining bastion of HFCS in my house and I know it's not even remotely healthy and I don't want my daughter to start on it and... and... so it's time. Just expect a little crankiness. :)
